Steel band plating

IAT can supply anodes for the three major plating applications for steel band, namely zinc (EGL), tin (ETL) and chromium (ECL). The first one is predominantly used for the automotive industry, the second and third one are being used in the food industry for cans and in the packaging industry. In all cases oxygen producing anodes are being used, each with its own tailored Iridium Tantalum Mixed Metal Oxide coating.

EGL Zinc

Zinc plating of steel band can be done by means of hot dip galvanizing, but we recommend to do it electrochemically in a Electro Galvanizing Line (EGL). In this manner thinner zinc layers can be applied, and the surface is more adherent for the next coating layer. Especially for the main application the automotive industry, these are essential advantages. IAT can supply anodes for EGL installations, with their high demanding working conditions and long service times requirements.

ETL Tin

Tin plating is mostly done on steel band in a so called Electro Tinning Line or ETL. These massive installations are used to tin plate a steel band, which is used to produce beverage cans, food cans and spray cans. IAT can supply the anodes for the two main process types of tinning, namely phenol sulphonic acid (PSA) or methane sulphonic acid (MSA). Furthermore IAT can supply other essential peripherals, such as busbars, connector blocks and fasteners made from Titanium.

ECL Chromium

Chrome plating is a relatively new process in comparison to Tin plating and Zinc plating of steel band, and has become a competitive process for tin plating in the food can industry. This product is also known as TFS (Tin Free Steel) or ECCS (Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel). IAT can supply the anodes for this process. Furthermore IAT can supply other essential peripherals, such as busbars, connector blocks and fasteners made from Titanium.
